Dried Putalinga Kula Banana

Putalinga Kula means “red” Putalinga and is one of the more popular Tongan banana varieties grown in Hawaiʻi. The trunk and leaves have a beautiful reddish hue, although the fruit itself does not. Inside, the pulp is a pale salmon color, and the bananas are short, thick, and pleasantly pudgy in shape.

Each fully ripe banana is sliced in half and gently dehydrated. While often used as a cooking banana, these develop a creamy sweetness when ripened, making them perfect for snacking.
